Mission Statement

The Religious School of Congregation B'nai Harim at the Nevada County Jewish Community Center is committed to teaching Jewish concepts, values and practices in order to develop and strengthen Jewish identity, awareness, and involvement.

Description

Congregation B'nai Harim is an active Jewish Community serving 90+ families in the Sierra Foothills. Located in Grass Valley at the Nevada County Jewish Community Center, our Religious School offers several programs for members of our congregation:

Sunday School for students ages 5 (or in kindergarten) to Bat/Bat Mitzvah.
Hebrew School for students in grade four and beyond to prepare to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Pre-school for students ages three or four.
Rabbi's Kids for students who have become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Confirmation Classes for teens three years beyond Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Class sizes are small, which allows our teachers to focus on individual needs and to develop close personal bonds with the children. Our Sunday School curriculum includes the study of Jewish practices, mitzvot, ethics, holy days and holidays, history, literature, synagogue skills, heritage, prayer, Hebrew and Israel. The materials and lessons are age-appropriate.

Throughout the year we participate in and/or celebrate Jewish Holy Days and holidays such as; Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Hanukah, Tu b'shevat, Purim, Passover, and Israel Independence Day. Our religious school students participate inour bi-monthly Family Shabbat Dinner. It is usually a dairy pot-luck beginning at 6:00 pm the second Friday of the month. This dinner is followed by a traditional service at 7:30. Call the synagogue, 530 477-0922 for details. We culminate the year with an annual Congregation/Sunday School picnic.
