Our students study with Rabbi Greenbaum and members of our faculty to prepare for the most formative ritual of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. This includes acquiring the ability to site-read Hebrew, learn the various blessings and prayers needed to conduct a Shabbat service, learn to read a section of the Torah portion and Haftarah portion, as well as explore the message and meaning of these portions. Finally, each student prepares a speech to reflect their thoughts on becoming a Bat/Bar Mitzvah, the lesson from their Torah portion and more. This culminates in the young student conducting an entire service in which they formally enter the congregation as an adult.
