As a follow up to the presentation by Emily Blanck of AIPAC and as a precursor to the presentations by Dr. Jehon Grist and Israeli Council General Akiva Tor, we will read and discuss the book "The Balfour Declaration: the Origins of the Arab-Israeli Conflict" by Jonathan Schneer. This controversial 1917 document is set in its historical context, conscientiously tracing the interests and motives of Turks, Arabs, Jews, and the English. This is a crucial book to understanding the Middle East to it is today. Plus, read "Jerusalem 1913" by Amy Dockser Marcus. These two books give background on how the Middle East was divided up. Each attendee will need to purchase and read their own books. It is important that the books be read prior to the meeting in order to have better discussions.
