What a weekend!!!
First, for our Friday Evening Shabbat Service, we had the beautiful Simchat Torah Service. Partaking in the unrolling and then rolling the torah is a very meaningful and special tradition.
Then, the next evening we presentated “Deli Nite” = “Fantastic – Best one we have done!”  Thank you to all who helped make this the success it was & to all who partook in the special evening and supported our wonderful Jewish community.

Thursday, Oct. 19th – 7:00 pm – “Jewish Gold Rush” – Stephen Kinsey, chairman of the Pioneer Jewish Cemetery Commission, will be the guest speaker at the Nevada County Historical Society’s Speaker Night which will be given in Royosa Hall at the Sierra Presbyterian Church, located at 175 Ridge Rd, Nevada City. The Society encourages interested members of the community to attend and there is no charge.

Membership directories are now at the Center. Be sure to pick up yours so we do not have to mail it. It costs about $3.00 to mail each. You can also pick up a Yizkor Memorial Booklet.
Please think about making financial donations to the Center when you feel able. You will find that we have many funds which are listed in the monthly newsletter.
Donations made to the following two funds are placed in our general operation account.
The “Tree of Life” fund lets you purchase a leaf for $100.00, ask to have it inscribed in honor of a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary and the leaf will be mounted on the Tree of Life located in the entrance to the Sanctuary.
The second fund is the Yahrzeit Memorial Board Fund. In memory of the passing of a family member or friend, a donation of $300.00 is made and the name of the departed is engraved on a plaque and mounted on the Yahrzeit Memorial Board which is on the wall in the Sanctuary.
If you shop at Amazon, be sure to sign up for Amazon Smile and list the NCJCC as the non-profit organization for which you would like to receive the donations.
Remember, this is your Jewish Community Center. Please call or email any member of the Board of Directors to let us know how we can make the Center better and more meaningful for you and all the other members.

Beginning October 22nd until November 6th, please contact Mya Russell, our vice president, if you wish to contact someone personally from our Congregation. Her email address is <>. She will call you back if you wish to talk to someone.

Youth Activities – Updated January 24th, 2017

Sunday January 22nd the GROOVY youth group braved the stormy weather and went bowling followed by pizza with youth group parent leader Dan Kalt and Rabbi David.  We had a great turnout and it was a fun time rolling the bowling balls with the gutter guards up. Fortunately the youth could figure out how to navigate the electronic scoring system! After bowling, we enjoyed Frank’s Pizza on Main Street. We had to order a 3rd extra large pizza as the first two disappeared quickly. Apparently, bowling really works up an appetite. It was fun to socialize outside of typical Sunday School activities.

And who knew The Rabbi was on his high school bowling team! A ringer! Probably a professional mini-golfer as well! Guess we’ll see in February.

The next GROOVY outing will be February 26th, at the 49er Fun Park, weather permitting. Please mark your calendars for miniature golf and go karts.
